Gloucester is a city on the north shore of Massachusetts that has been an important shipping and fishing center for over 300 years. It is also a place with lots of inlets and coves, and commercial areas where the old meets the new. I like to go to areas that make it less recognizable as Gloucester, becoming instead an old place showing the wear and tear that happens when the manmade meets the sea. I like to add another element, though. I go at night. If it’s a clear night or, especially, on a foggy night, it becomes a spooky place, untethered in time and place.
